Recap:
The Findlay Grrrowl felt right at home over the weekend, routing the Philadelphia Thunder 7-1 Friday and capping off the home-opening series with a 5-2 win on Saturday at the Cube Arena.
Grrrowl center, Chris Gendron, led the charge in front of a crowd nearing 300 at the Cube for the home-opener, scoring five goals and assisting on one.
Chris Clark added two scores and goalkeeper, Andy DiCristofaro, recorded 24 saves and came just 37 seconds shy of his first shutout of the season as Philly’s Brad Penk was able to slip one by him just before the finale.
The Thunder kept the game tight in Game 2 Saturday until two third period goals sealed the victory for the Grrrowl.
Gendron added one onto his weekend total and Clark tallied another two in the game as the Grrrowl was able to add the insurance goals it needed to sustain the lead in the third and hold off the late Thunder-ous attack by Philadelphia.
GK Louis Morin held his own in goal in Game 2, shielding Philly’s attack with 36 saves.
The Grrrowl’s Kevin Quinn, Michael Lezotte and Derek Sulpezio each had 2 assists over the weekend.
With the sweep, the Grrrowl improve to 4-3-1 on the season and also prove to be a force to be reckoned with as the season progresses. The team will enjoy plenty more of its home-ice advantage, as it continues its long homestand this weekend against the Wooster Oilers, who barely trail the Grrrowl in fourth place in the league standings.
